Experiments

I’m planning on trying

epoxy/silk- investigating silk as a fibre reinforcement

sugar reinforced cotton as an edible fabric.

metal weaving into fabrics and its properties.

using wicking fabrics for industrial uses, eg keeping a moisture sensitive device dry/ reduce the humidity about it

341 - fabrics

fabrics are dynamic, they move. air pushes them around people interact with them. but you can set them and design them to be static, sails, sun shades, fibreglass.

further definition of fabrics is any material made through weaving, knitting, spreading, crocheting, or bonding that may be used in production of further goods (garments, etc.).that covers anything from felts to  complex weaves.

also density of fabrics affects how they feel. some can be more than a kilogram per square metre and if made into a garment would feel very heavy. for ex. denim is a relatively heavy fabric. on the other extreme fabrics can be be very light weight. getting down to tens of grams per metre, such as silk.

Fabric

Fabric refers to any material made through weaving, knitting, spreading, crocheting, or bonding that may be used in production of further goods (garments, etc.).

subset of textiles. can be used for clothing - shelter (tents) - construction (fibreglass/composite materials)

properties: malleable, varied texture, durable under scrunching?, can be waterproof/ strechy/stiff/ have highly directional strength. synthetic or organic. can be combined with othermaterials/interwoven for improved properties.

[Flash 10 is required to watch video]

This is the first segment of the scene with a few draft materials attached. have decided to let the ball roll right off the slide before I cut to the next camera.

DSDN 231 project 2

properly started project 2, I have a scene set for the first 400 frames and am starting to build the next 300 frame segment. picked my music and it fits really well with the feel of the video so far. and I’m starting my first HD (720) render of the first 200 frames. pretty pleased to have the music set early, last time I picked to too late and it really screwed the impact of the video.

Material

I wanted to use a transparent material on my object. and liked the Idea of a metallic material too. I then discovered the blend material, where you can blend two materials together. mmmmmm.

making it change

I started playing with modifiers next. I didnt really have a clear idea of what I was aiming for in the piece but I wanted to make the object dynamic. what I didnt like about damian hirst’s Diamond skull was how static the subject was. I used smooth and deliberate modifiers and controlled using the curve editor to keep the motions fluid.
